Latah County Commissioners Appoint Ashley Jennings as Prosecutor

Latah County commissioners appointed Ashley Jennings as county prosecutor Tuesday, filling the remaining term of retiring Prosecutor Bill Thompson.

Jennings will serve through 2028, when Thompson’s current term ends. Thompson plans to retire at the end of next month.

Jennings has worked in the Latah County prosecutor’s office since 2014 and has served as senior deputy prosecutor since 2018. She worked with Thompson in preparation for his retirement.

Jennings graduated from the University of Idaho College of Law in 2010. She also shared the lead prosecuting attorney role in the prosecution of Bryan Kohberger, who murdered four University of Idaho students in 2022.

Thompson was first elected prosecutor in 1992. He is the longest-serving prosecutor in Idaho and the longest-serving prosecutor in Latah County history.
