Latah County Commissioners Select Ashley Jennings as Prosecutor

The Latah County Board of Commissioners selected Senior Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Ashley Jennings to become Latah County prosecuting attorney after Bill Thompson retires.

Thompson’s retirement is scheduled for Dec. 1, 2026. Jennings will assume the office after that date.

Jennings graduated from the University of Idaho College of Law in 2010. She practiced law privately in Moscow before joining the Latah County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Commissioners appointed her deputy prosecuting attorney in 2014, and she was promoted to senior deputy in 2018.

Jennings has served as second in command of the office and has worked with Thompson since 2021 to prepare for the prosecuting attorney role.

Jennings shared the lead prosecuting attorney role in the case involving the Nov. 13, 2022, murders of Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Ethan Chapin and Xana Kernodle. The prosecution ended with guilty pleas and consecutive fixed life sentences.

Thompson said Jennings is qualified to take over the office and expressed confidence in her ability to lead it. Jennings said she was grateful to those who trusted her to serve as prosecutor.
