Idaho Women’s Soccer Holds Northern Colorado Scoreless

The University of Idaho women’s soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to five matches with a 0-0 draw against Northern Colorado on Thursday afternoon. The contest took place at Jackson Stadium in Greeley, Colo., marking the Vandals’ third consecutive result without a loss to open Big Sky Conference play.

The match was defined by defensive resilience rather than offensive production. Idaho goalkeeper Paula Flores secured her 24th career shutout, recording two saves to keep Northern Colorado off the scoreboard. The draw improved Idaho’s overall record to 7-2-4 and its conference standing to 1-0-2.

Northern Colorado controlled possession and volume in the first half, outshooting Idaho 6-1 and earning five corner kicks. Despite the pressure, the Vandals’ defense held firm through halftime. Northern Colorado finished the game with an 11-5 advantage in total shots and a 9-2 lead in corners.

Idaho created fewer chances but was more clinical when opportunities arose. The Vandals held a narrow 3-2 edge in shots on goal. In the second half, Idaho recorded four shots, two of which were on target. Northern Colorado goalkeeper Thordis Melsted made three saves to preserve the tie.

A pivotal moment occurred in the seventh minute when Idaho was awarded a penalty kick. Makenna Stuart stepped up to take the spot kick, but Melsted saved the attempt, denying the Vandals an early lead. The save shifted momentum and set the tone for a tightly contested match.

The result continues a steady start for the program in conference competition. Prior to this matchup, Idaho drew 1-1 with Weber State and defeated Idaho State 3-0. Northern Colorado enters the contest with a 3-5-3 overall record and a 0-0-1 mark in conference play.

The Vandals will look to build on their unbeaten run when they travel to face Northern Arizona. The next match is scheduled for Sunday at 1 PM PST.
