Idaho Survivor Petitions to Redact Face From Police Footage

Dylan Mortensen, a surviving roommate of four University of Idaho murder victims, has asked a judge to conceal her face in public police interviews and body-camera footage.

Mortensen filed an affidavit before the planned public release of sealed records. She said harassment following the November 2022 deaths forced her to move nine times and led her to use aliases in her personal life and workplace for basic safety.

Mortensen was a key eyewitness and prosecution witness in the case. Bryan Kohberger pleaded guilty to the deaths of Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin, who were killed at an off-campus home in Moscow, Idaho.

Mortensen said she and her family have faced continuing intrusion from reporters and self-appointed investigators. She also became the subject of numerous unfounded conspiracy theories.

“Since November 2022, my life has changed in ways I never could have imagined,” Mortensen wrote.

She also said people who had never met her had judged her character, questioned her actions and accused her of conduct unrelated to the killings.
