District Bar Brings Hot Wing Eating Contest to Knitting Factory Tonight

Moscow-area food lovers and heat-seekers have something to look forward to this evening as The District Bar hosts a hot wing eating competition at The Knitting Factory, kicking off at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15.

Ten competitors will face off across five rounds, each tackling five wings per round — wings prepared by five local and regional restaurants: Flamin’ Joe’s, Jewel of the North, Flying Goat, Viking, and District Bar itself. Each participating restaurant crafted 50 wings for the event.

Steffany Sanchez, speaking about the competition, noted that several of the restaurants went beyond their standard menus for the occasion. “A lot of these restaurants are actually making their own sauce and making it a little spicier than what they typically serve on the day-to-day,” she said.

Community Flavor, Local Partners

The event draws on a mix of local restaurant pride and regional business partnership. Spokane-based hot sauce company Booey’s Gourmet is teaming up with District Bar for the competition, adding an extra layer of specialty heat to the proceedings.

Sanchez described the event as an opportunity to connect businesses and neighbors alike. “That’s just a little way to, you know, help the community and then also get some involvement from them,” she said.

Winners will walk away with prizes provided by the participating vendors, including merchandise, gift cards, and bottles of hot sauce. Competitor registration has already closed, but spectators are welcome — admission is free for anyone 21 years of age or older.

What Comes Next

Tonight’s competition is a one-night event, so those looking to catch the action should head to The Knitting Factory by 4:30 p.m. While competitor slots are filled, the event remains open to the public as a free spectator experience for adults. Whether District Bar or one of the partnering restaurants takes the title of hottest wing, the evening looks to be a strong showcase of the Palouse region’s growing local food and beverage scene.
