Local Band Approaches August Release Date for Long-Awaited Third Record
When She Dreams, an electronic rock band from the Post Falls and Spokane area, is closing in on the release of its third studio album, with the record expected to drop in August after sitting approximately 75 percent complete. The band will perform at a People’s Town Hall event at Spokane Central Library on Sunday, July 11, featuring candidates running for Congressional District 5 and Legislative Districts 3, 4, and 6.
The group traces its origins to a sixth-grade band class decision by Jaxon Leyde and Sam Hurlbert to perform a Twenty One Pilots cover in a school talent show. They recruited a classmate to play drums and launched what would eventually become When She Dreams. The band’s name emerged years later when Leyde, after a brief relocation to Phoenix during middle school, encountered a classmate whose spontaneous observations proved artistically inspiring. Leyde said of the naming moment, “She says the craziest things, I wonder what she thinks about when she dreams. That’s basically it.”
The band returned to the greater Spokane area under its original moniker, Golden Hour, before eventually settling on When She Dreams. Leyde had spent roughly a year in Phoenix before coming back to Post Falls, where he was working on songs from an earlier band project that had dissolved. Those unfinished compositions would form the foundation for the group’s artistic direction.
Two Albums, Growing Sound
When She Dreams released its debut album, “Your Gravity All Mighty,” in 2022. The record featured a concept album narrative centered on a sentient planet employing mind control to absorb a human consciousness. Elijah Kidd joined as bassist, co-vocalist, and manager around the time of that first release, adding depth to the group’s lineup and production capabilities.
Three years passed before the band unveiled its second album, “This Town Hates Pedestrians,” in 2025. The title reflects a practical frustration Leyde experienced while walking to work in Post Falls—a shortage of sidewalks in certain areas of town. The record marked another evolution in the band’s electronic rock approach.
The upcoming third album aims to synthesize the strengths of both previous efforts. Leyde described the project’s significance to the group’s artistic identity, saying, “I think this next album is going to be like the great culmination of all of our skills, and really help define us.” The new material will restore the electronic synth sound prominent in the debut while retaining compositional elements developed across the second album.
Sunday Performance and Venue History
When She Dreams frequently performs at Big Dipper, a local venue in the region, and has built a presence in the Spokane and Post Falls live music scene. Their appearance at the People’s Town Hall event on Sunday represents a platform to reach a broader audience interested in local politics and community engagement alongside musical entertainment.
With the third album nearing completion and an August release target in place, the band is positioned to introduce its refined sound to fans who have waited three years since “This Town Hates Pedestrians” arrived. The combination of refined production, expanded synth layers, and accumulated songwriting experience suggests the record could represent a notable milestone in the group’s evolution from a sixth-grade talent show idea to an established regional act.
