The University of Idaho Department of Theatre Arts is presenting a stage adaptation of George Orwell’s dystopian novel “1984” at the Forge Theater in Moscow. The production runs through October 18, offering seven performances that examine themes of totalitarian control, surveillance, and individual liberty.
Craig A. Miller, an associate professor of theatre at the university, directed the play. Robert Owens, Wilton E. Hall Jr., and William A. Miles Jr. adapted the source material for the stage.
“‘1984’ is more relevant today than ever,” Miller said regarding the production’s timing.
The performance schedule begins with a preview on Thursday, October 8, at 7:30 p.m. Additional evening shows are set for Friday and Saturday, October 9 and 10, also starting at 7:30 p.m. A matinee performance is scheduled for Sunday, October 11, at 2 p.m.
The second week of performances includes evening shows on Friday and Saturday, October 16 and 17, at 7:30 p.m., concluding with a final 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, October 18.
Tickets are free for University of Idaho students. General public admission ranges from $6 to $26. The Forge Theater is located at 404 Sweet Ave. in Moscow.
