University of Idaho student-athletes recorded a cumulative grade point average of 3.49 for the spring 2026 semester, marking the 24th consecutive term the Vandals athletic department has achieved a 3.0 or higher GPA.
Idaho Athletics announced the academic results following the end of the academic year, with several programs setting new records for classroom performance. Every varsity sport at the university posted a team GPA of at least 3.20.
Record-Setting Programs Lead the Way
Volleyball topped all teams with a 3.78 GPA, a program record. Thirteen volleyball players earned a 3.0 or better, including five who posted perfect 4.0 grade point averages.
Men’s tennis also set a program mark with a 3.82 team GPA, surpassing the previous record of 3.74. Nine tennis players earned at least a 3.0, with three achieving a perfect 4.0.
Women’s track and field recorded the most individual 4.0 performances for the second semester in a row, with 26 athletes posting perfect marks. The program’s overall team GPA stood at 3.66.
Academic Achievement Across All Sports
Football produced 72 student-athletes with at least a 3.0 GPA, including 18 who earned a 4.0. The team’s overall GPA reached 3.32.
Men’s golf recorded a 3.66 team GPA, with five players earning a 4.0. Women’s golf posted a 3.50 average, including two 4.0 students.
Swimming and diving turned in a 3.54 team GPA, with 14 swimmers earning perfect marks and 23 others recording a 3.0 or higher.
Women’s tennis achieved a 3.65 team GPA with four 4.0 students. Soccer posted a 3.61 average with six perfect marks. Women’s basketball recorded a 3.54 GPA with six 4.0 students, while men’s basketball came in at 3.21 with three perfect GPAs.
Men’s track and field posted a 3.28 team GPA with five 4.0 students and 21 others earning at least a 3.0.
Academic Excellence as a Priority
Across all sports, 256 Idaho student-athletes earned a GPA of 3.0 or higher for the spring semester. Ninety-two of those athletes achieved a perfect 4.0.
The University of Idaho is the only Carnegie R1 research institution in the state, a designation reserved for universities with the highest level of research activity. The athletic department has emphasized that student-athletes choose Moscow not only for athletic competition but also for academic opportunities.

The Vandals will continue their academic and athletic programs through the summer and into the 2026-27 academic year. The athletic department has maintained its standard of a 3.0 or higher departmental GPA for six consecutive years, establishing a sustained culture of classroom achievement alongside competitive performance in Big Sky Conference athletics.
