University of Idaho Theatre Opens Adult Drama ‘Venus in Fur’ at Moscow’s Forge Theater July 9

The University of Idaho’s Idaho Repertory Theatre will bring David Ives’ Venus in Fur to Moscow audiences this summer, opening with a preview performance at the Forge Theater on Thursday, July 9. The production runs for three weeks and is intended for adult audiences due to mature themes.

The play follows Thomas, a playwright and director growing increasingly frustrated while auditioning actresses for his new production. When a woman named Vanda arrives late for an audition — sharing the name of the play’s lead character — the dynamic between the two begins to shift in unexpected ways. The story blends drama, humor, and mystery while exploring themes of power, gender, and relationships.

Director Craig A. Miller, an associate professor of theatre at the University of Idaho, said the production offers audiences a look at the audition process while challenging expectations through the evolving relationship between the two characters.

Zoe Kelly takes on the role of Vanda, with Cory Williamson playing Thomas. The two-character format places the weight of the entire production on their performances throughout the run.

What Comes Next
