U of I Theatre Arts Stages Orwell’s ‘1984’ at Forge Theater

The University of Idaho Department of Theatre Arts is presenting a seven-performance run of George Orwell’s dystopian novel, “1984,” adapted for the stage by Robert Owens, Wilton E. Hall Jr., and William A. Miles Jr.

Craig A. Miller, an associate professor of theatre at the university, directs the production. The play opens with a preview performance on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 7:30 p.m. All shows will be held at the Forge Theater, located at 404 Sweet Ave. in Moscow.

Bryce Gowey portrays Winston Smith, while Cambree Miller plays Julia in the cast.

“‘1984’ is more relevant today than ever,” Miller said. “The struggle the characters face to maintain their humanity in an increasingly surveilled and controlled world is something I know will resonate with audiences.”

Tickets for the general public range from $6 to $26. University of Idaho students may attend performances free of charge. Tickets are available for purchase at uitickets.com.
