Potlatch Man, Woman Killed in UTV Crash Near St. Maries

A man and woman from Potlatch were killed late Friday night after their side-by-side utility vehicle left a roadway in Benewah County and plunged into a river near St. Maries, Idaho State Police said.

The crash occurred at approximately 9:25 p.m. along the 9000 block of Railroad Grade Road. Authorities determined that a 52-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman were riding in a 2023 Can-Am Maverick Sport when the vehicle veered off the road, rolled down an embankment, and entered the river.

Neither occupant was wearing a seat belt. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

What Comes Next

Idaho State Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances of the crash. No additional passengers or vehicles were reported to be involved. Authorities have not released the names of the deceased pending notification of family members.
