Two Potlatch Residents Die After UTV Plunges Into River Near St. Maries
A man and woman from Potlatch lost their lives Friday evening after a side-by-side utility vehicle left a roadway, tumbled down an embankment, and came to rest in a river near St. Maries.
Idaho State Police responded to the scene around 9:25 p.m. along the 9000 block of Railroad Grade Road in Benewah County. Authorities say a 52-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman were riding in a 2023 Can-Am Maverick Sport when the vehicle departed the road and entered the river below.
Neither occupant was wearing a seat belt. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
