Two Potlatch Residents Dead After UTV Plunges Into River Near St. Maries

A man and woman from Potlatch lost their lives late Friday after the side-by-side utility vehicle they were riding in left a road in Benewah County and plunged into a river near St. Maries.

Idaho State Police reported the crash occurred at approximately 9:25 p.m. along the 9000 block of Railroad Grade Road. The two occupants — a 52-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman — were traveling in a 2023 Can-Am Maverick Sport when the vehicle departed the roadway, went down an embankment, and entered the river.

Neither occupant was wearing a seat belt. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Idaho State Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances of the crash. Authorities have not released the names of the deceased pending notification of next of kin.
