Mother and Infant Airlifted After Two-Vehicle Collision on Highway 8 Near Troy

Interstate highway

A woman and an infant were both seriously injured Friday afternoon after a two-vehicle crash on Idaho Highway 8 west of Troy, according to Idaho State Police.

The collision took place near the intersection of Highway 8 and Driscoll Ridge Road, where a sedan pulled onto the highway without yielding and was struck by an eastbound white pickup truck. The impact sent the sedan off the roadway.

Life Flight Called to Scene

The woman driving the sedan sustained severe injuries and was flown to a hospital by Life Flight helicopter. The infant, also critically injured, was transported separately by ground ambulance. Idaho State Police Sgt. Aaron Bingham confirmed the crash was reported “around 1 p.m. Friday at the junction of the highway and Driscoll Ridge Road.”

The driver of the pickup truck was not hurt in the collision. Authorities have not publicly released the names of any individuals involved.

Traffic Disrupted; Investigation Ongoing

The wreck caused significant traffic delays in the area. Crews established a single lane of travel while emergency responders worked the scene. The incident remains under investigation by Idaho State Police.

Highway 8, which connects the Moscow area to Troy and communities further east, sees regular traffic from commuters, farm vehicles, and freight. The Driscoll Ridge Road junction sits in a rural stretch of highway where failure-to-yield crashes have occurred in the past.

Motorists traveling the highway corridor are encouraged to exercise caution at rural intersections, particularly where sightlines may be limited. Latah County residents are also reminded to stay alert to other public safety concerns in the region — a local bat recently tested positive for rabies, prompting health officials to urge residents to avoid contact with wild animals.

What Comes Next

Idaho State Police have not indicated a timeline for completing their investigation into the crash. No charges or citations have been publicly announced at this time. As the case moves forward, additional details — including the identities of those involved and any enforcement action — may be released once investigators have completed their review. The conditions of the woman and infant had not been formally updated in information available at the time of publication.

Anyone with information about the crash or who witnessed the events near Driscoll Ridge Road is encouraged to contact Idaho State Police.
