Latah County Democrats convened a biannual fundraising event on Tuesday, Sept. 15, to rally support for their slate of candidates heading into the 2026 election cycle. The gathering featured food, beverages, and live music, serving as a platform for attendees to discuss policy priorities and campaign goals.
Tim Gresback hosted the function, emphasizing the need to back candidates who could shift the state’s political landscape. He said the group has “forward thinking candidates that need support that can help change the balance of power within the state.”
Ian Schlater argued that Idaho voters are prepared for a shift in leadership, asserting that current representatives fail to adequately serve Latah County residents.
Candidates used the event to outline their platforms, focusing on women’s healthcare, public land management, education, and property tax relief. Women’s healthcare and public lands emerged as the most prominent topics of discussion among attendees.
Laura Heinse, a candidate for District 2 Commissioner, highlighted her focus on farmland conservation, resource preservation, water protection, and wildfire readiness related to public lands. Carol Wells is running for Commissioner in District 1.
Kathy Dawes, seeking the House Seat 6B, criticized current officials for interfering in private medical decisions despite lacking medical credentials. Other candidates present included Robin Weldy, Lori Hickman, Shannon May, and BJ Swanson.
