The University of Idaho men’s basketball program has landed a significant in-state transfer, announcing that Kase Wynott will join the Vandals after two seasons at Washington State University.
Wynott holds the record as the all-time leading scorer in Idaho high school basketball history. The Moscow native starred at Lapwai High School, where he played four years of varsity basketball and helped lead his team to three state championships.
Injury-Shortened Season at WSU
During his time with the Cougars, Wynott appeared in games over two seasons but saw his second year cut short by injury. A hip problem forced him to the sideline, and he did not play after November 24th of this past season.
The transfer brings Wynott back to the Palouse region where he built his reputation as one of Idaho’s most accomplished prep players.
Vandals Coach Welcomes Hometown Star
Idaho head coach Alex Pribble expressed enthusiasm about adding Wynott to the roster. The coach revealed that Wynott had been a recruiting priority when Pribble’s staff first arrived at the university.
According to the news release announcing the commitment, Pribble stated that getting Wynott into a Vandal uniform represents an exciting development for the program.
Program Momentum After Tournament Success
The addition comes as the Vandals build on their most successful season in decades. Idaho captured the Big Sky Conference Tournament championship and earned a berth in the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1990.
The program’s recent success and Wynott’s deep Idaho roots created natural alignment for the transfer. His familiarity with the region and proven scoring ability at the high school level could provide valuable depth as the Vandals look to sustain their competitive momentum in the Big Sky Conference.
What Comes Next
Wynott will have eligibility remaining to contribute to the Vandals in upcoming seasons. The university has not yet announced when he will be eligible to play, as transfer rules and his recovery timeline from the hip injury will factor into his availability. Idaho will look to defend its conference tournament title and return to the NCAA tournament with Wynott now part of the roster moving forward.
