Boise Native Jakob Pack Joins University of Idaho Vandals Lacrosse as Freshman LSM

Jakob Pack, a freshman from Boise, made his collegiate lacrosse debut during the 2025 season with the University of Idaho Vandals, wearing number 8 and competing at the Long Stick Midfielder position.

Standing 6 feet tall and weighing 130 pounds, Pack appeared in six games during his first year on the Moscow campus. Over the course of those appearances, he recorded one goal and two groundballs — modest but meaningful contributions for a true freshman learning the pace of collegiate play at the LSM spot, one of the more demanding hybrid roles on the lacrosse field.

A Challenging Debut Season for the Vandals

Pack’s freshman year came during a difficult stretch for the Idaho lacrosse program. The Vandals went 0-6 across the games in which he participated, facing a gauntlet of regional opponents. Idaho fell to the Oregon State Beavers 2-19 on February 22, then dropped a 2-15 decision to the Western Oregon Wolves the following day. A March 1 matchup against the Washington State Cougars resulted in a 4-16 defeat, and the Gonzaga University Bulldogs handed Idaho a 7-12 loss on March 23. The season continued with a 3-12 setback against the Central Washington Wildcats on February 9 and a 14-18 loss to the Puget Sound Loggers on April 12.

The results reflect the competitive nature of collegiate club and varsity lacrosse in the Pacific Northwest, where programs like Oregon State, Washington State, and Gonzaga have built experienced rosters that pose significant challenges for developing programs.

Building Toward Future Seasons

For Pack and other freshmen on the Idaho roster, the 2025 season provided valuable experience against high-level regional competition. The LSM position requires athleticism, defensive awareness, and the ability to transition quickly — skills that typically develop significantly between a player’s freshman and sophomore years.

The Vandals athletics program continues to grow its lacrosse presence, and players like Pack represent the foundation of future rosters. His ability to see the field as a freshman and contribute a goal in six appearances suggests a role that could expand as he gains collegiate experience.

Pack joins a University of Idaho athletic department that has seen noteworthy individual achievements this year. Fellow Vandal Constanze Paoli recently earned All-American honors at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, a reminder of the competitive talent developing across Idaho’s flagship university.

As the 2025 season wraps up, the Vandals coaching staff will look to use the offseason to develop younger players — Pack among them — heading into what the program hopes will be a more competitive 2026 campaign.
