Big Sky Women’s Golf Championship Opens Monday

Idaho Vandal Women’s Golf Team Opens Big Sky Championship Monday in Arizona

The University of Idaho women’s golf team is set to open play at the Big Sky Women’s Golf Championship on Monday at Wigwam Resort in Litchfield Park, Arizona, with the Vandals entering the field as the sixth-ranked team among ten competitors.

The three-day, 54-hole tournament will be played on the Wigwam Blue course, which plays at 5,981 yards at a par 71. Tee times begin at 7:50 a.m., with groups going off every ten minutes. Live scoring will be available via Scoreboard by Clippd.

Vandals Aim to Finish Season Strong

Sacramento State and Northern Arizona University enter the week as the favorites for the championship. Despite being seeded sixth in the field, the Idaho Vandals are looking to make their mark as they close out the 2025-26 season on a high note.

Leading the charge for Moscow’s Vandals will be Laura Caamaño, who enters the championship as the No. 1 golfer on the roster. Caamaño has shown consistent form heading into the postseason, posting a seventh-place finish at the Georgia State Invitational and a 38th-place finish at the Bobcat Desert Classic — a result that underscores her reliability at the top of the lineup.

Slotting in at the No. 2 position will be Lucy Newell, a freshman who has made an immediate impact after stepping into the lineup last week. Newell led the team with a 26th-place finish at the Bobcat Desert Classic, a performance that earned her a starting spot at the conference championship.

Rounding out Idaho’s five-player lineup are Ella Kozak, Diya Brar, and Boram Jung, a redshirt senior who will be the first Vandal off the tee Monday morning, teeing off at 7:50 a.m. Zoe Newell, a junior, serves as the team’s substitute and is available to enter the lineup at any point during the tournament.

A Team with Experience and Fresh Talent

The Idaho lineup reflects a blend of veteran leadership and emerging talent. Jung, competing as a redshirt senior, brings experience to the top of the order, while freshmen Lucy Newell and Diya Brar represent the program’s future. Kozak, a sophomore, adds another layer of developing depth to the Vandal roster.

The Vandals’ ability to mix seasoned players like Jung with younger contributors such as Lucy Newell — who wasted no time making her presence felt in her first tournament appearance — gives head coach staff reason for optimism heading into the conference tournament.
