Horse and Halo, a rescue organization, is working with the Latah County Sheriff’s Office to find homes for approximately 65 horses that have been seized and forfeited to the county. The group faces an August 28 deadline to place the animals.
The horses, believed to be primarily Morgans, have been improving in condition since arriving in the organization’s care. Staff have arranged preventative veterinary services and report the animals have gained weight under their supervision.
Officials have not disclosed details about the circumstances leading to the seizure. The rescue group’s effort reflects the broader challenge of managing large numbers of equines removed from situations where their care was found to be inadequate or unsafe.
