Lane Reductions Planned as US-95 Landslide Repairs Begin South of Moscow

Motorists traveling U.S. Highway 95 south of Moscow should plan for traffic disruptions starting Monday as the Idaho Transportation Department launches repair work on a landslide site near milepost 336, approximately one mile south of Thorn Creek Road.

The slope in question first showed movement during construction of the updated US-95 alignment in September 2023 and was addressed at that time. This past winter’s wet conditions triggered additional shifting, prompting engineers and geologists to monitor the site closely before scheduling a more permanent fix.

Moisture and Soil Conditions Blamed for Movement

Transportation officials said the renewed instability stems from elevated moisture levels and soil composition that does not bind well under saturated conditions. Repairs were deliberately timed for the dry season to allow the slope to settle and to provide safer conditions for work crews operating along the highway corridor.

The project reflects broader concerns about roadway stability across Latah County following a notably wet winter season. Moscow area waterways were placed under flood watch earlier this year as city crews monitored conditions throughout the spring thaw.

What Comes Next

Drivers using Highway 95 between Moscow and points south should anticipate lane restrictions in the milepost 336 area beginning June 1. ITD has not indicated a projected completion date for the repairs. Travelers are encouraged to allow extra time and watch for flagging operations or reduced speed zones near the Thorn Creek Road corridor.
