Two Potlatch Residents Dead After UTV Plunges Into River Near St. Maries
Two Latah County residents lost their lives late Friday after a utility terrain vehicle left a roadway and plunged into a river in Benewah County, according to the Idaho State Police.
The crash occurred at approximately 9:25 p.m. near the 9000 block of Railroad Grade Road outside St. Maries. Authorities said a 52-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman, both from Potlatch, were traveling in a 2023 Can-Am Maverick Sport when the vehicle veered off the road, went down an embankment, and entered the river.
Neither occupant was wearing a seat belt. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
