Moscow City Offices Shifting to Four-Day Summer Schedule Starting June 8
MOSCOW, Idaho — City of Moscow business offices will operate on a condensed summer schedule from Monday, June 8 through Friday, August 21, 2026, giving residents extended weekday access to city services while freeing up Fridays entirely.
Under the adjusted hours, city offices will be open Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and will remain closed each Friday during that period. The compressed schedule keeps employees at a full 40-hour workweek while spreading those hours across four days.
Which Services Are Affected — and Which Are Not
Not all city operations will follow the new timetable. The Moscow Police Department, Moscow Fire Department, Hamilton Indoor Recreation Center, and Hamilton-Lowe Aquatics Center will each maintain their standard hours throughout the summer. Construction inspection services will also remain accessible Monday through Friday, though those appointments must be scheduled in advance.
The shift primarily affects administrative and business offices that residents visit for permits, billing, licensing, and other municipal functions.
Built on a Successful 2025 Trial Run
City officials moved forward with the program after a pilot effort last year produced positive results. The earlier trial demonstrated that the four-day model could serve residents effectively while also giving staff a better work-life balance during the summer months.
Moscow has increasingly looked for ways to modernize its operations without expanding its workforce. That approach aligns with broader county-level discussions — Latah County has similarly explored strategies to grow efficiency through technology rather than additional staff.
Residents with questions about the summer schedule or specific office availability can contact the city by phone at (208) 883-7000 or by email at comms@ci.moscow.id.us.
What Comes Next
The adjusted hours take effect June 8 and run through August 21, after which city offices are expected to return to their standard schedule. Moscow residents are encouraged to plan ahead for any city business that would typically fall on a Friday, and to take advantage of the earlier 7:00 a.m. opening time on weekdays for added scheduling flexibility.
