University of Idaho Extension to launch new Ag Talk Tuesday season

University of Idaho Extension to Launch New Season of Ag Talk Tuesday Program in Idaho

MOSCOW, Idaho — University of Idaho Extension is preparing to launch a new season of its popular Ag Talk Tuesday program, offering free virtual sessions designed to keep Idaho farmers, ranchers, and agricultural producers informed on crop conditions, water issues, and other topics affecting the state’s agricultural industry.

The sessions will be held via Zoom from 11 a.m. to noon on the first and third Tuesdays of each month from May through August. Registration is required for participants to receive access links to the online meetings.

What Producers Can Expect from Ag Talk Tuesday

Each session will follow a consistent format built to maximize value for working agricultural producers across Idaho. The first half of every meeting will open with a statewide crop update, during which University of Idaho Extension experts and participants share real-time observations on current field conditions, pest concerns, and other pressing production issues. The collaborative format allows producers from across the state to compare notes and benefit from the collective knowledge of their peers and Extension professionals alike.

The second half of each session will feature a guest speaker drawn from the agricultural industry or academic community, bringing focused expertise on topics relevant to Idaho’s diverse farming operations. The combination of open crop discussion and structured presentations gives producers both practical, timely information and deeper insight into specific agricultural challenges.

The program reflects the University of Idaho Extension’s ongoing commitment to serving Idaho’s agricultural communities, which form the economic backbone of much of rural Latah County and the broader Palouse region. The Palouse is one of the most productive dryland farming areas in the nation, with wheat and lentil production representing significant portions of local agricultural output and regional identity.

Free Resource for Idaho’s Agricultural Community

The program carries no cost to participants, removing financial barriers that might otherwise prevent smaller operations or beginning farmers from accessing quality educational resources. The free, virtual format also means producers from across Idaho — from the Palouse hills of Latah County to the irrigated fields of southern Idaho — can participate without leaving their operations during the busy growing season.

Water issues, which have become an increasingly pressing concern for Idaho’s agricultural community in recent years amid fluctuating snowpack and evolving water rights discussions, are listed among the topics the program intends to address. Crop conditions and pest management are also expected to feature prominently throughout the season’s sessions.

University of Idaho Extension has long served as a critical link between cutting-edge agricultural research and the farmers and ranchers who depend on practical, science-based guidance to manage their operations. Programs like Ag Talk Tuesday allow Extension professionals to reach producers who may not have the time or resources to attend in-person workshops or training events.

Those interested in participating are encouraged to register in advance to ensure they receive the Zoom access links before each session. Registration details are available through the University of Idaho Extension program.
