Idaho’s All-Time High School Scoring Leader Kase Wynott Signs with University of Idaho Vandal Basketball
MOSCOW, Idaho — The University of Idaho men’s basketball program has added one of the state’s most decorated prep players to its roster, announcing the signing of Kase Wynott, a Lapwai native and former Gatorade Player of the Year, who will join the Vandals for the 2026–27 season.
The signing continues head coach Alex Pribble’s push to keep elite Idaho talent close to home following the program’s Big Sky Championship run and comes on the heels of earlier commitments from TJ Wal and Nolan Newman-Gomez.
Record-Breaking Idaho Product Comes Home
Wynott, a 6-foot-6 guard, is no ordinary transfer. The Lapwai, Idaho native — whose hometown sits roughly 40 miles from Moscow — holds the Idaho high school all-time scoring record with nearly 3,000 career points. He also set the state’s single-game scoring record with an extraordinary 68 points in a single contest.
During his high school career, Wynott averaged 36 points, 13.9 rebounds, and 9.1 assists per game, making him one of the nation’s leading scorers at the prep level. That performance earned him the 2024 Idaho Gatorade Player of the Year award, one of the most prestigious honors in high school athletics.
After his standout prep career, Wynott began his collegiate journey at Washington State, just across the state border, where he appeared in 29 games and tested himself against some of the West Coast’s most competitive Division I programs. Now, he returns to his home state to suit up in black and gold.
Coach Pribble did not hide his enthusiasm for landing the in-state star. “Kase is coming home! He was a recruit we really prioritized when our staff first got here, so it’s exciting to officially get him in the Vandal uniform,” Pribble said. “We want the best players from Idaho to be in this program, and Kase is the all-time leading scorer from the state, so we’re very excited. He can really score the ball, he’s got a diverse skill set, and he’s a competitor. He’ll make an immediate impact next year.”
Building a Big Sky Contender with Idaho Roots
The Wynott signing reflects a deliberate recruiting philosophy under Pribble — one centered on identifying and retaining top Idaho talent rather than allowing Gem State standouts to leave for programs in other states or conferences. For a program that just completed a Big Sky Championship run, adding the state’s all-time leading scorer carries both symbolic and competitive weight.
Wynott joins a 2026 recruiting class that the coaching staff has assembled with an eye toward competing for another Big Sky title in 2027. His combination of scoring ability, size at 6-foot-6, and playmaking — evidenced by his high school assist numbers — gives the Vandals a versatile perimeter weapon who can contribute immediately.
The University of Idaho’s commitment to building around in-state players also aligns with broader institutional values of serving Idaho communities. Latah County residents and Vandal fans will have the opportunity to watch one of the state’s hometown heroes compete at the college level just miles from where he grew up. Moscow’s spring calendar is already filling up, with community events like the Moscow Jazz Festival returning April 22–25 drawing residents downtown ahead of what promises to be an exciting offseason for Vandal athletics.
